Fire screen

One of the things that scared me the most was the danger of a log rolling out of the fireplace and filling the room with smoke. It happened to me a couple times.

Apart from the smoke there is a true risk of setting the house on fire. I already had a fire screen to stop the sparks but it was too little to stop a log. 

A friend of mine suggested installing a screen with a door to avoid both dangers (logs and sparks) and that's what I did as soon as I could. It looks great.

Birthday 2020 and counting...

Last night I got a lawn mower as a present given to myself. I have never had one before and I felt like having one. I must say it is fantastic and really really fast. I could only try it for half an hour or so but I am very happy.

The problem is that there is not a lot of grass since we are in the middle of the rain season (April) but the grass is starting to grow fast now.

 Anyway the results are great :)

Getting ready for the Springtime

January is traditionally the coldest month in the area where I live. Reaching 19 ºC is pretty unusual. Should I begin to worry?

Anyway last week I was busy planting two almond trees and sowing tomatoes. In April I will sow the lawn. I already bought the seed a couple of weeks ago.

Well two summers have passed since I started planting the oleanders around the front fence (more or less one year and a half). See the difference?

 

Tomatoes 2019

I know this is cheating but I couldn't reach my goal this year of growing 1 kilo tomatoes (around 2 pounds). There is an excuse though. The heat wave took its toll on the plants, even though I watered them as necessary they got excessive heat from the sun and it of course affected the fruits.

Anyway I am quite happy with my half kilo tomatoes (around one pound) even though they do not have the quality, the flavour, and the smell they used to with warmer weather.

Merry Trees-mas

Yesterday I bought some evergreen trees which I want to plant in my orchard. They are tiny now but hopefully they will grow up very quickly in the rich soil I am preparing for them.

Reaching the top

This one with 0,871kg beats my record. But on the downside I think I've reached the top this season. There are several other huge tomatoes but not quite as big as this one. I would like to reach 1kg. Maybe next year...

It's April again and the kitchen garden is becoming greener and greener. It is lovely to see plants grow so well. I sowed lima beans, tomato plants, spinach, green and yellow chard, artichokes, carrots, onions, zucchini, lettuce and I'm not done yet ...

This year I added several strawberry plants.
