Happy Friday

This is like the funniest thing I saw last Friday. I had to take a photo.
 Have a good one!

Plan B

Being a member of The A-Team myself I love it when a plan comes together. But I am also aware of how important it is to always have a plan B or two (what some people call a plan C).

And I firmly believe this is even more true in the digital world. Yes, it is important to have a backup of your data, but that alone does not solve all your problems.

If you are using other people's software (especially commercial software) you have to use the software in the way that other people expects you to use it, otherwise, things might not work properly.

Experience in life teaches you to be prepared when the software does not do what you want it to do but it does what the designers want it to do instead.

So in respect to the websites I am working on, I usually have my plans B and C at hand so that I can say oh yeah I love it when my plans comes together :)

Juke box hero

I am reading Lou Gramm's biography authored by Scott Pitoniak and himself.

It is a fantastic book. Easy to read and of course worth reading.

I am truly enjoying it.

The high blood pressure incident

Two weeks ago, on October 15th, in a routine medical check the doctor
found out that my blood pressure was so high that I could have
    suffered significant damage.

I like to call it "the incident" for some reason, don't know why.

From that day on, my life has changed significantly. Now I eat without
any added salt, I avoid coffee, alcohol and any other thing that can
    make my blood pressure rise.

What is more, since I need to lead a healthy life, I do not eat sugar.
The only sugar I get comes from fruit. Can't get any healthier.
Thus, I think I started a chain reaction in the sense that
avoiding salt and sugar I do not eat ultra-processed food anymore.

And, if you ask me, I will tell you that even though my life is a bit
boring I really feel good (as in healthy) and also happy that it was
all something I can write about without having suffered any damage or
    attack/stroke.

As I am writing this, I have a blood pressure monitor attached to my
left arm and it is telling me that the results are back to normal.

Apart from regularly checking my blood pressure at home I have to go
from time to time to the doctor's so that she can see that my health
is on the right track. No problem, everything is ok now.

    Stay healthy!

Warm and cozy

I was looking for a pellet stove and I found this beautiful gas heater. It's awesome!

P0410

I diagnosed my cars yesterday. One got green light. The other one gave error code P0410: Secondary air injection malfunction.

This system pumps air into the exhaust to lower emissions. I suspect I need to replace the O2 sensor. Everything else works fine.

Halloween spiderweb

I forgot to upload this picture I took in my garden.

The fog made the spiderwebs look great. They were all around.

Can anyone tell me why?

 Here is the thing:

Where I live (and places nearby) when you go to a regular bar or restaurant, let's call it a cheap place, you choose what you want to eat from a selection of dishes. And that's ok with me. The quantity or quality of course depends on the place, but on the average, you can eat excellent dishes for a decent price in Spain.

BUT (notice capital letters)

If you go to an expensive restaurant, and this has been so for several (too many years now) you are offered a variety of starters (usually four or five) and then the main course. You can choose the main course, but fsck fsck and fsck you cannot choose the starters, they are usually left to the excellent taste of the chef.

Man I do not eat any kind of fish, let alone escargots and in my area you are usually given for starters fish and escargots one after the other which means I have to starve for at least one hour or one hour and a half until I can sink my teeth into some good piece of meat.

I swear I will never go back to such fine restaurants unless one of these two conditions are met:

1. I have no other choice than going because you are invited in a situation you cannot say no

2. I can choose which starters are presented in front of me.

I swear again I'd rather stay at home and prepare a sandwich than going to one of those places again. Can now someone tell me why this shit happens? I have not been able to find a reasonable answer, and I have talked about it with many people, They all seem to agree that being offered those starters is okay with them. Maybe I am being a weirdo here. Who knows...

Dyin' ain't much of a livin'

A long time favourite (the song by Jon Bon Jovi) since I listened to it for the first time many many years ago.

The funny thing is that I had never really fully understood the meaning of the title until today. When I watched a short video of the movie in which Clint Eastwood says exactly that.

In short. Context is all!

Finger

I cut my finger really badly while working in the kitchen garden. I was cutting a lettuce for diner and the knife slipped and hit my thumb. I only wish I had chosen to eat herrings for diner instead of a salad ;-)

The cut was really deep, but it is slowly healing. This happened two months ago. I can move my finger after weeks but it is a bit insensitive yet.

I hope it gets better by Christmas. I need it to open my presents ;-)

A web server written in bash

I had wanted to try a web server written in bash for years, well the wish just came true with bashttpd available at  https://github.com/avleen/bashttpd

It is pretty easy to use, you only need to download the script, make  it executable and launch it. There are several launch options, one single connection or accepting multiple connections. At launch time a default config file is created, bashttpd.conf, you can configure several things, especially the files you want to serve.

In order to connect to the server, ie, to see the file it is serving use the address of the machine using port number 8080. For example if  the server has the following ip: 10.100.120.2 open a web browser and type http://10.100.120.2:8080 and that's it.

Two important considerations here:

 - Never use it on the web, it is highly dangerous and insecure. Use it at home or in a private network (Its main use is for testing stuff)

- "If anyone installs that anywhere, they might meet a gruesome end  with a rusty fork" --- BasHTTPd creator, maintainer

 Enjoy it

Peace

I was curious to know how the word "peace" was in Chinese. I searched the web and I found this:

I think it is beautiful. So I decided to post it here.

Disclaimer: the image is not mine. And besides I don't even know if it really means "peace". I hope so. It's what we always need.

I am so terribly sad

One of my uncles planted two white mulberry trees 90 or 100 years ago. They were so huge that everybody admired them.

Several years ago one of them was so damaged by a storm that I had to cut it down.

The one that was left was really awesome. But again several storms torn it to pieces so I had to grasp the chainsaw and well...

I hope I can plant some new trees to replace them.

I am thinking about a magnolia and a mulberry tree.

Again. I hated having to cut them down, but I had no other choice. It was dangerous to be around in a wind storm.
