Both used to run bullseye and I must say that the upgrade was pretty neat.

Be warned that before running apt full-upgrade I read their "official" guide that I found here because I had some bad experiences in the past trying to upgrade without removing other software that I had installed from different repositories. This time I did it right and the results were excellent.

xana took a little longer because I have many many packages installed (around 1800) it is an older laptop and you know, in time systems tend to get bloated. It took more or less one hour. I have to do some serious cleaning.

jean has around 1000 packages. It took more or less half an hour.

I am really happy that both upgrades went so well. I only had to make one simple modification on xana after the upgrade. I use st (simple terminal or stterm) on both laptops but I had compiled it from source to include some modifications. These modifications were lost after the upgrade.

Now I use the default package as provided by the debian distribution. But I had to add some options to the command.

From now on lets see what good things bookworm has to bring.

chalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15739485472175715092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571850315687806241.post-53464251946136169672024-03-03T20:55:00.000+01:002024-03-03T20:55:50.512+01:00Axyl, an OS with i3 by defaultLast night I discovered Axyl. An operating system based on ARCH linux and focused on window managers.

It works well with i3, bspwm, dwm, XMonad, Spectrwm and others, but the default one is i3.

I must say that I only tried it live. But it runs fast and it is pretty cool. I have not installed it because I am too lazy to learn ARCH. I tried ARCH once but only for a little while.

Their official website is https://axyl-os.github.io

As a curiosity. It was developed in Republic of the Philippines. But I do not know anything else about it apart from what I read on Wikipedia.

chalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15739485472175715092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571850315687806241.post-36896033621451305832024-03-02T19:58:00.001+01:002024-03-02T19:58:24.926+01:00Preparing plants Spring 2024

It happened to me a couple times.

Apart from the smoke there is a true risk of setting the house on fire. I already had a fire screen to stop the sparks but it was too little to stop a log.

A friend of mine suggested installing a screen with a door to avoid both dangers (logs and sparks) and that's what I did as soon as I could. It looks great.

To tell you the truth, I had never used Play Books before. Let me insist about the commercial thing. I have used several applications through the years. but only as e-readers. They didn't have an option to buy books online.

I knew Play Books existed and that it was pretty good, the problem was that back in the day you couldn't import your library to the platform. It was only possible to read the books that you acquired through it. So I had never even started the app.

But when I revived my lenovo tablet after a long hibernation I started using Play Books and I must admit that I love it, in fact now I am using both (kindle and Play Books) at the same time.

In the kindle I am reading a book about ecological gardening and in the
Play Books I am reading "La Bestia" (the beast) by Carmen Mola. I am truly enjoying both the books and the e-reader applications.

The best thing without a doubt is the synchronization between devices, no matter if you are reading on the tablet or the phone you do not have to waste a minute trying to figure out where you were when you left it. Both apps take you to your bookmarks.

And very likely the second best thing would be night light, for reading when it gets dark.

chalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15739485472175715092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571850315687806241.post-40434334624931869642023-02-02T21:58:00.001+01:002023-02-04T08:33:51.454+01:00Black tomato seedsToday I got seeds of black tomatoes. There are several launch options, one single connection or accepting multiple connections. At launch time a default config file is created, bashttpd.conf, you can configure several things, especially the files you want to serve.

In order to connect to the server, ie, to see the file it is serving use the address of the machine using port number 8080. For example if the server has the following ip: 10.100.120.2 open a web browser and type http://10.100.120.2:8080 and that's it.

Two important considerations here:

- Never use it on the web, it is highly dangerous and insecure. Use it at home or in a private network (Its main use is for testing stuff)

- "If anyone installs that anywhere, they might meet a gruesome end with a rusty fork" --- BasHTTPd creator, maintainer

Enjoy it
chalshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15739485472175715092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4571850315687806241.post-17037916052562242432022-10-16T08:24:00.001+02:002022-10-17T08:56:46.604+02:00Peace I was curious to know how the word "peace" was in Chinese.
